As a music marketer at Play Africa and a blogger at GhanaThings.com, Play Africa serves as a music streaming company and a music library for all Africans. I feel much happy to have attended the just ended music business summit by the VGMA board.
By the grace of God, I have had the opportunity to attend three music business summits in Ghana being, Afrima Awards music business summit, MTN Music business Summit and VGMAs music business summit respectively.
After attending all these summits, VGMAs business summit which was held yesterday is the most poor and bad music business summit I have experienced so far in my life compared to other music business summits I attended.
Now let me break it to you, why I believe this is the most poorest summit that I have ever attended so far.
1. Attendance Was Very Bad.
VGMAs being the biggest music awards in Ghana, organizing a music business summit for musicians, management and the industry as a whole was a good idea, because it will help us learn more business related issues to music.
But majority of the musicians and their management were not present at the summits to understand the business side of music. Now the question is did the organizers invite them or they didn’t, if they did, then why should the musicians and their management fail to attend and if they didn’t what’s the motive behind the summit?
2. The speaker of the programs didn’t say anything new about music business and no education was giving out, expect the MTV lady who brought something new on board about how Ghanaian musicians can get their songs played on their Channel.
After the summit, I had the opportunity to talk some of the people that attended the event. Most people weren’t happy about the summit because they didn’t hear anything new concerning music business.
I will urged Charter house and the organizers to go back to their drawing board just so they improve the standard of the music business summit they organized next time.
